A Genetic History Of Baptist Thought

by William H. Brackney, A Genetic History Of Baptist Thought Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download A Genetic History Of Baptist Thought books, Baptists have been among the most diverse denominations in the world, but, regardless of what some may think, there is an identifiable theological tradition for the Baptists. This book is an interpretive study focusing on Baptist theology as it developed in Britain and North America. It is more than a collection of biographical essays or an apology for a particular theological perspective. The author reaches chronologically across four centuries and among British and North American Baptists of varying stripes. He argues that there is a multiplicity of sources of Baptist thought, including confessions of faith, hymnody, pastors, academic theologians, "schools of thought," African American contributors, uniquely Canadian emphases, and those theologians who are "Baptist" but work outside of any direct denominational linkage. Another important assumption is that Baptists have influenced each other through literary and scholarly dependencies, mentoring, academic affiliations, and informally through associations. Unfortunately, Baptists have made scant the use of "footnotes" until last century, and this has complicated the theological detective's task.

Historical Dictionary Of The Baptists

by William H. Brackney, Historical Dictionary Of The Baptists Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Historical Dictionary Of The Baptists books, Baptists are a major group of Christians with a worldwide presence. Originating in the English Puritan-Separatist tradition of the 17th century, Baptists proliferated in North America, and through missionary work from England, Europe, and North America, they have established churches, associations, unions, missions, and alliances in virtually every country. They are among the most highly motivated evangelists of the Christian gospel, employing at present in excess of 7,000 domestic and overseas missionaries. Important characteristics of the Baptists across their history are: the authority of the Scriptures, individual accountability before God, the priority of religious experience, religious liberty, separation of church and state, congregational independence, and a concern for the social implications of the gospel. Baptists recognize a twofold ministry (deacons and pastors) or a threefold order (deacons, elders, pastors). Historical Dictionary of the Baptists, Third Edition expands upon the second edition with an updated chronology, an introductory essay, a bibliography, and hundreds of cross-referenced dictionary entries on important events, doctrines, and the church founders, leaders, and other prominent figures who have made notable contributions.
