Local Climate Action Planning

by Michael R. Boswell, Local Climate Action Planning Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Local Climate Action Planning books, Climate change is a global problem, but the problem begins locally. Cities consume 75% of the world's energy and emit 80% of the world's greenhouse gases. Changing the way we build and operate our cities can have major effects on greenhouse gas emissions. Fortunately, communities across the U.S. are responding to the climate change problem by making plans that assess their contribution to greenhouse gas emissions and specify actions they will take to reduce these emissions. This is the first book designed to help planners, municipal staff and officials, citizens and others working at local levels to develop Climate Action Plans. CAPs are strategic plans that establish policies and programs for mitigating a community's greenhouse gas (GHGs) emissions. They typically focus on transportation, energy use, and solid waste, and often differentiate between community-wide actions and municipal agency actions. CAPs are usually based on GHG emissions inventories, which indentify the sources of emissions from the community and quantify the amounts. Additionally, many CAPs include a section addressing adaptation-how the community will respond to the impacts of climate change on the community, such as increased flooding, extended drought, or sea level rise. With examples drawn from actual plans, Local Climate Action Planning guides preparers of CAPs through the entire plan development process, identifying the key considerations and choices that must be made in order to assure that a plan is both workable and effective.

by Mark Diesendorf, Climate Action Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Climate Action books, Responding to the global flowering of commitment to environmental issues, this handbook shows activists and citizens how to pressure governments and businesses to create a framework for large and rapid reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. With examples of climate-action movements in the United States, the UK, and Australia, this manual draws inspiration from these successes. In presenting these positive case studies of grassroots social movements that brought about change, the guide refutes the myths disseminated by vested interests and the greenhouse mafia who are trying to undermine effective action.

Evaluating Climate Change Action For Sustainable Development

by Juha I. Uitto, Evaluating Climate Change Action For Sustainable Development Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Evaluating Climate Change Action For Sustainable Development books, This book is open access under a Creative Commons license. This authoritative book presents the ever progressing state of the art in evaluating climate change strategies and action. It builds upon a selection of relevant and practical papers and presentations given at the 2nd International Conference on Evaluating Climate Change and Development held in Washington DC in 2014 and includes perspectives from independent evaluations of the major international organisations supporting climate action in developing countries, such as the Global Environment Facility. The first section of the book sets the stage and provides an overview of independent evaluations, carried out by multilateral development banks and development organisations. Important topics include how policies and organisations aim to achieve impact and how this is measured, whether climate change is mainstreamed into other development programs, and whether operations are meeting the urgency of climate change challenges. The following sections focus on evaluation of climate change projects and policies as they link to development, from the perspective of international organisations, NGO’s, multilateral and bilateral aid agencies, and academia. The authors share methodologies or approaches used to better understand problems and assess interventions, strategies and policies. They also share challenges encountered, what was done to solve these and lessons learned from evaluations. Collectively, the authors illustrate the importance of evaluation in providing evidence to guide policy change to informed decision-making.
