Gerhard Richter

by Gerhard Richter, Gerhard Richter Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Gerhard Richter books, Gerhard Richter is one of the foremost artists of his generation. Central to his work is a strong set of values which throughout his career he has expressed in extensive notes and writings, and in provocative and memorable public declarations in which he shows himself the master of the paradoxical statement. The original volume of Gerhard Richter's writings was published in 1995. This new book makes available a wider and more up-to-date selection of Richter's texts, from all periods of his career, many translated for the first time. The collection includes letters and interviews; public statements about specific exhibitions; private reflections from personal correspondence; answers to questions posed by critics; and excerpts from journals discussing the intentions, subjects, methods and sources of his works. Accompanied by biographical photographs from the artist's personal collection, these texts form a brilliantly illuminating commentary on Richter's art, as well as providing a thought-provoking discussion on the status of art in society today.

Gerhard Richter 100 Selfportraits 1993

by Gerhard Richter, Gerhard Richter 100 Selfportraits 1993 Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Gerhard Richter 100 Selfportraits 1993 books, For the subscription edition of "Schriften und Interviews", that was published by Insel Verlag in 1993 in an edition of 100 copies, Richter drew a 23.5 x 17.7 cm "self-portrait" in pencil on the back of a portrait photograph at the front of the book. Enthused by his work, he produced a further 94 signed and dated self-portraits between the 3rd of September and the 12th of December 1993 on loose leaves, which are published here for the first time. It is when they are seen together as a series that this brilliant exercise becomes impressive. Despite the means of production being largely the same or similar, each instance has an individual formal and aesthetic appearance. The pencil drawings form an open series of variations, whose aspiration is not the gradual nearing of a perfected final outcome, but rather the serial testing of different, but equally weighted possibilities of representation within limited specifications.00Exhibition: Albertinum, Dresden, Germany (01.06. - 26.08.2018).

Thought Images

by Gerhard Richter, Thought Images Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Thought Images books, In this book, Gerhard Richter explores the aesthetic and political ramifications of the literary genre of the Denkbild, or thought-image, as it was employed by four major German-Jewish writers and philosophers of the first half of the twentieth century: Theodor W. Adorno, Walter Benjamin, Ernst Bloch, and Siegfried Kracauer. The Denkbild is a poetic mode of writing, a brief snapshot-in-prose that stages the interrelation of literary, philosophical, political, and cultural insights. Richter's careful analysis of the linguistic characteristics of this mode of writing sheds new light on pivotal concerns of modernity, including the fractured cityscape, philosophical problems of modern music, the experience of exiled homelessness, and the disaster of Auschwitz. Thought-Images not only reorients our understanding of the Frankfurt School of Critical Theory in important ways but also establishes significant links between these writers and contemporary French thinkers such as Jacques Derrida.

Obrist O Brist

by Gerhard Richter, Obrist O Brist Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Obrist O Brist books, Gerhard Richter and Hans-Ulrich Obrist have known each other since 1985. Their collaboration began seven years later when the 24-year-old Obrist curated his first Richter exhibition. The following year he published a collection of his writings. Now Gerhard Richter has dedicated an artist's book to this long-standing relationship. The texts in the book have been created by rearranging interviews by Hans-Ulrich Obrist using a random generator. These are set in blocks without defined passages or paragraphs. The color plates are made up of photographs, both portraits and mementos, of Obrist from the past 15 years and close-ups of Richter's paintings, which Richter has then painted over using brushes and scrapers. Richter has arranged the image, text and interleaf pages. Upside down pages appear time and again, meaning that the book, which has two different sleeves, can be viewed from both sides. Both of the original sleeve designs (Obrist and O'Brist), are embossed, with the motif standing out from the background.
