New Perspectives On Deviance

by Lori G. Beaman, New Perspectives On Deviance Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download New Perspectives On Deviance books, Designed for courses in Deviant Behaviour, and Introductory Deviance. This edited collection focuses on the construction of notions of deviance in everyday life. Discussions of traditional theories are included to provide students with a well-rounded overview of theoretical approaches to deviance. However, the guiding theoretical framework of the book is a focus on the social construction of deviance, both at the macro and micro levels. While the first section considers topics that are traditionally found in deviance textbooks-prostitution, drug abuse, alcoholism, and mental illness-the second section highlights assumptions about what constitutes "normal" families, bodies, and cultural practices. Most deviance readers and texts focus on very narrow conceptualizations of what constitutes deviant behaviour, with little attention paid to "everyday" constructions of deviance related to poverty, body image, and family values.

The Anthem Handbook Of Screen Theory

by Hunter Vaughan, The Anthem Handbook Of Screen Theory Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Anthem Handbook Of Screen Theory books, The Anthem Handbook of Screen Theory offers a unique and progressive survey of screen theory and how it can be applied to a range of moving-image texts and sociocultural contexts. Focusing on the “handbook” angle, the book includes only original essays from established authors in the field and new scholars on the cutting edge of helping screen theory evolve for the twenty-first-century vistas of new media, social shifts and geopolitical change. This method guarantees a strong foundation and clarity for the canon of film theory, while also situating it as part of a larger genealogy of art theories and critical thought, and reveals the relevance and utility of film theories and concepts to a wide array of expressive practices and specified arguments. The Anthem Handbook of Screen Theory is at once inclusive, applicable and a chance for writers to innovate and really play with where they think the field is, can and should be heading.

Linking Work Family Issues To The Bottom Line

by Dana E. Friedman, Linking Work Family Issues To The Bottom Line Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Linking Work Family Issues To The Bottom Line books, A 1988 symposium on the effect of family problems on the corporate bottom line and a review of more than 80 other studies have confirmed that business investments in programs and policies to resolve family-work conflicts yield returns. Family issues/problems have been documented to affect employee recruitment, productivity, turnover, and absenteeism. Job factors such as time elements, job demands, and work environment and family factors such as marital relationship, spouse support, spouse employment, and division of labor have all been found to affect different employees in different ways depending on the given employee's sex, occupational status and income group, and employment status (full- versus part-time status). Included among the specific family problems that have been found to affect employee productivity are stress, pregnancy, child care, and elder care. Employee-sponsored child care centers, parental leave, flextime, and employee assistance programs have all been demonstrated to reduce employee turnover. Companies may not want to conduct research on work-family issues because of its cost and complexity. Such research is valuable, however, because it can help identify the most effective responses to family-work issues/problems. Directions for future research on work-family issues include the following: interdisciplinary, holistic, comparative, longitudinal, interactive, and visionary research studies. (MN)
