My Appalachia

by Sidney Saylor Farr, My Appalachia Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download My Appalachia books, Although Sidney Saylor Farr is renowned in the field of Appalachian studies, her own fascinating personal history has been little known until now. My Appalachia is Farr's story of growing up in the mountains of southeastern Kentucky, where her devotion to her family led her to accept crushing responsibilities that steered her away from her own goals. Her intense determination, however, compelled her to find her own path in life and gave her the strength to become one of the most influential figures in her discipline. At the age of twelve, Farr was forced to leave school to care for her ailing mother and several younger siblings. Given the responsibilities of adulthood early in life, she pushed herself through countless challenges, including poverty, discrimination, and personal loss. Yet she managed to thrive -- she educated herself, raised two sons, and became a voice for her family, community, and culture. In My Appalachia, Farr shares the stories of her struggles and triumphs to create a vivid picture of a culture as enduring as the mountains. Composed of a rich mix of folklore, family history, and spiritual and intellectual exploration, My Appalachia reveals the beauty at the heart of life in Appalachia.

My Appalachia 1924 1942

by Lorraine Stott Maiden, My Appalachia 1924 1942 Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download My Appalachia 1924 1942 books, This is the history of how people lived and interacted with one another during a time when the struggle of man was the determinng factor in success or failure. The Government did not rescue disadvantaged people. Parents and children struggled to find a place at the top of the success ladder, hoping for self-fulfillment. Some, the meek, were held back to make room for the aggressive ones. It shows the subtle forms of control in family life, which place some smart and talented family members at the bottom of the ladder. Trial and error is the process of learning. When the opportunity to try is denied, a child has little chance to grow into a normal adult. There is a big price to pay for that lack of opportunity, because it leads to yet, another dysfunctional parent. There were no evil intentions--just each person trying to find his own niche, some succeeding and some giving-up. For me it took a generation of self analysis and therapy to learn who I AM. Because of the "sins of the fathers/parents" rule for living, I passed some of my dificulties on to my beloved children. It is up to them to fight the battle and come to terms with the problem of Generational Sins.
